Ensus Bioethanol plant update Summer 2010
Ensus, the UK's largest biorefinery is now producing ethanol and is rapidly heading
towards full production.
The plant at Wilton on Teesside started trial production in late 2009 and the first
commercial shipment of ethanol was made to Shell in February 2010.
When fully operational the plant will use 1.2 million tonnes of wheat a year and
will produce enough ethanol to meet a third of the UK's requirements under the RTFO.
In addition the plant will also produce 350,000mt of high protein animal feed a
year, and all the carbon dioxide captured in the production process will be used
in the food and beverage industry.
All the wheat for the Wilton plant is supplied by Glencore Grain UK Ltd, who also
market all the high protein animal feed.
